When you taste an Organic candy bar you won’t go back. A new world of flavor opens up and mass-produced bars taste stale and plane. This bar in particular has a very distinct flavor that I haven’t tasted in any bar yet. This bar contains “Peppermint Crisps” which contains Peppermint Oil that give it strong flavor and crunch that supports the darker 67% cocoa flavor very nicely. Let’s go into further detail on the benefits of what Equal Exchange is doing to make their bar superior.

Equal Exchange boasts their bars as being crafted using the best quality cacoa from the Dominican Republic and Peru. They work with small-scale farmer co-operatives who cultivate and harvest the cocoa pods using environmentally sustainable methods. Being Organic & Fair-Trade you help provide small-scale farmers the resources and opportunities to build a better future for their families and communities. You’ll will pay more for this chocolate bar but you’ll have a much better product made with better ingredients that helps the world and it’s people. On the inside of the wrapper Equal Exchange provides benefits of Fair Trade and their bar in further detail. This is great for those who want to further educate themselves and understand why these products cost more.

While I was reading the ingredients I found something interesting that I never heard of before. “Syramena”. It appears to be another name for Refined crystalline Raw or White Cane Sugar. It’s produced in Paraguay in two different qualities. A raw form and known as “Golden Light” and “Organic White Cane Sugar”. The difference in Syramena is that it’s refined whereas Sucanat is not.

Ingredients: *Organic cocoa liquor, *Syramena™ Organic Raw Cane Sugar, *Organic cocoa butter, *Sucanat™ Organic unrefined whole cane sugar, pepperming crisps (*Organic cane sugar, Organic peppermint oil), Organic ground vanilla beans. May contain traces of milk, peanuts, hazelnuts, almonds, cashews, pistachios & pecans. Cocoa 67% min. (*Fair Trade Certified™)

And one least detail. I can’t forget to note that these bars are Kosher certified by Rabbi Abraham Hochwald, Chief Rabbi of the Northern Rhine-Germany.

Conclusion:

Equal Exchange does a very good job explaining the benefits of their chocolate to consumers while making one bad bar. This peppermint crisp flavor is a nice change from normal dark chocolate. It’s a bit pricey but the 3.5 oz size is bigger than a normal bar and worth it for the health benefits of dark chocolate and the Organic and Fair Trade factors.
